Which of the following things that a gallery director might do is most important to you?Feel free to vote there ..... but I would like to say something about it too, just a few things how I feel about it.......
You do not need to be a Gallery Director to - Offering critique
- Frequenting dAMN
- Featuring art and keeping people in formed through the use of journals
- Helping Deviants and being there for them
- Creating tutorials (for instance, photoshop tutorials for photography)
- Participating in community projects
This is something everyone can do !
You
need to be a GD to feature DDs and clean up galleries..... the second one is the least thankful chore of all. Not that a GD does mind doing it, but it is probably the most unrewarding and draining thing to do. Especially if deviants come back with tickets addressed to the GD in a language that is beyond human. So please if a deviation of you gets moved and you disagree, be nice ! Handing out DDS , well its a privilege we can do
Ok back to the first part....
Offering critique : Nothing wrong with that, but it has to be limited. I know there are many deviants who want critique, I get such requests almost daily . I am always willing to help if I find the time, but you need to keep in mind that time is limited at times. Other ways to get critique is going to forums and to chats such as #thumbsshare for example there are even clubs and groups offering it. There are many forums for each gallery where you can seek help with your art.
Frequenting on dAmn : well..... if I have it in me to be honest and if there is something going on where my presence is required. But I prefer to do more helpful stuff then chatting around in dAmn all day . Don't get me wrong, I go there but that is not why I became a GD, everyone can do that.
Featuring art and keeping people in formed through the use of journals: Everyone can feature ART and support deviants and the community and if you see something that is of interest , liek a news article or another journal a deviant wrote, spread this info in your journal. Of course the things a GD spreads in their journal are sometimes more behind the scene things, but featuring ART ... everyone sees ART when browsing dA so grab it, feature it. Support each other. This is what community is about !
Helping Deviants and being there for them : Again another thing everyone in this great community can do , of course we GDs are more in the "public" then others. I personally try to get back to anyone who comes to me in notes or comments and try to help them with what they need. Ok I do not give relationship advise and such , but anything photography related or if you can't find anything in fAQs and such, I will be happy to help you with ( just be a bit patient with me sometimes I have lots of notes) So what can the regular deviant do to help each other ? If you see someone writing a journal or a comment asking for help and you know the answer , tell them !
Creating tutorials (for instance, photoshop tutorials for photography): Everyone can do that, everyone probably way better then I can ever do. So this is probably one thing I will not do, not because its not what a GD does but simple because I am not good at it
So you write them
Participating in community projects: Well now why is this called Community projects and not GD projects ? Because its for the community and you are the community , so get involved. I will try to always have the most current ones going on in my news section .
See there are many things where deviants can help deviants, join in on community projects, support ART etc. etc. of course when all this is done by a GD who stands more in a public spot the message spreads faster, but each and every deviant can chip in to make deviantART a great place !
